Matěj Bernát plays his Dynafit ski like a guitar in the snowy Alps

Matěj Bernát

Minimalist...

When mountain enthusiast Ivo Bernát took his fourteen-year-old son ski touring up the Mont Blanc, he had no idea he was starting a journey that Matěj would complete twelve years later. As the first Czech and third youngest man in the world, Matěj summited all 82 four-thousand-meter peaks in the Alps. But this was only the beginning for him. His passion for mountains and movement in them continued to grow, eventually taking him from the Tatras and Alps to the highest peaks of all. With a first ascent of Sura Peak in the Himalayas alongside world famous Mára Holeček, Matěj secured his place among the Czech mountaineering elite. His record-breaking time on the legendary "Gipsy" Tatarka traverse in the High Tatras also confirmed his place among top ski mountaineers. Along the way, he has competed in trail races like B7, LHUT, LH24, Sherpa Rallye, and more, where he also made his mark. Remarkably, he accomplished all this before turning thirty and shows no signs of stopping. Matěj embraces minimalism, both in the mountains and in life — except when it comes to his ambitions.

Matěj has also begun dedicating himself to charity work. His growing popularity has brought him more opportunities to give back, and he’s using this newfound potential in the best way he can.

All of this is certainly remarkable. Yet what’s most striking about Matěj is that, despite ranking among elite athletes, he treats sports more as a hobby amidst an otherwise intense professional life. His true passion lies in dentistry, a field he pursues with perhaps even greater enthusiasm and dedication. After years of practice and voluntary education, he founded his own clinic, Biancodent. He also launched a sports shop in the foothills of Lysá Hora with his younger brother Jakub, aptly named, Mountain Squat  — reflecting the lifestyle of many mountain enthusiasts. The name ties closely to Matěj’s own life. To keep up with everything, he spends most nights "squatting" in his camper van, and when things get really tight, he doesn’t hesitate to sleep on a mattress in his clinic.

Matěj is an experienced dentist with quality education and first-class practice in prestigious dental centres. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at Palacký University in Olomouc, and has further developed his knowledge in a number of specialized courses and internships in the Czech Republic and abroad and is also co-author of an impacted study. Since graduation he has worked at the Sorriso clinic in Brno under the supervision of MUDr. Gregor and at the same time in the dental practice U Nábřeží in Zlín.

For Matěj, dentistry is perhaps an even greater priority than the mountains. He is constantly furthering his education, investing in top-quality equipment, and doing everything possible for his clients and their dental health. In 2024, Matěj founded Biancodent clinic, which is currently based in Zlín. Alongside his former "boss," MDDr. Jakub Turčan, he also bought a pub where they initially hosted a closing party and then started reconstruction transforming it into a dental clinic.

But despite all this, Matěj remains, at heart, a true "bon vivant." After a big effort, he enjoys a glass of prosecco, demands good coffee and pastries, and most of all, appreciates it when someone joins him for a seventh scoop of ice cream at midnight. It's no wonder his favorite place is sunny Italy.
